These lightweight, interlocking panels are made of structural grade steel, with a minimum tensile strength of 37ksi.
They are rigid enough to tolerate reasonable loads, permitting various profile designs without risks of cracking or significant elastic recovery.
DECRA panels provide a weather-tight barrier that lasts for generation – and is guaranteed by a transferable 50-year limited warranty. They are freeze/thaw resistant and nonporous. DECRA panels are walkable and low maintenance and won’t crack, break, burn, curl, split or rot. DECRA panels also offer a 120 mile per hour wind warranty.
This durability is achieved first by a bath of molten aluminum-zinc alloy. This coating combines the protection and strength of both aluminum and zinc. A significant benefit of this zinc component is its ability to protect exposed areas such as cut edges, drilled holes and scratches.
DECRA shingles are also coated in an acrylic priming system, which enhances the adhesion of subsequent coatings – including the basecoat. The basecoat is formed by applying a custom designed acrylic resin binder. This specially formulated paint coating is made in two colors that will blend with the various stone granule colors. This basecoat both serves as an adhesive that bonds the stone granules to the base steel and protects the underlying material from water and UV light, while providing an array of colors. These ceramic-coated granules are sized and applied to ensure maximum coverage of the basecoat.
An acrylic overglaze is applied as a final coating that gives the granules a semi-gloss appearance. This tough, thin, acrylic finish bonds to the granules and encapsulates them in a coating that enhances the panel’s resistance to physical damage.
